After three years of building, the hospital is now fit for purpose. The first 10 cataract operations took place on 27th February 2016, and the official inauguration was on 4th March.
This all happened as follows: Harihar Ram Ji, has a disciple, Dr Raj, who visited me in India in January.
Dr. Raj knew of an eye surgeon, Dr. Sunil Shah, who has 2 eye hospitals in Varanasi.
Dr. Shah was trained by Dr. Badrinath, who is also known by Dr. Raj.
What with a meeting and various e-mailings, it was agreed that Dr. Shah would come to the hospital on a weekly basis, with his team and the latest eye surgery equipment, to perform cataracts operations, free of charge, to the poor and needy from the village areas.
Hopefully, this can be subsidised by some patients who would only be charged £50 or so for an operation, a fraction of the normal cost.
In this way, the hospital should be self-sustaining over time.
At the moment, some funds are required to maintain this process and to allow the hospital to expand in the future.
My sincerest thanks to all who were and still are, involved with Vision Varanasi and I hope and pray that many really poor and needy will be served by us in the future.
